Tony Granato has been a fixture of the Chicago Blackhawks studio announce team for the 2023-24 season since being let go as head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers. On Sunday night he announced some sad news.

The sad news released on Sunday night

Tony Granato took to twitter on Sunday night to release a tragic diagnosis.
I debated how to share this news but I will be taking a temporary leave of absence from NBC Sports Chicago and the Blackhawks broadcasts, as well as
NHL Network. I was recently diagnosed with a form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and will begin treatment this week. I wish I could reach out to everyone individually, but felt like this was the best way to share the news. My family, faith, and friends will be my strength to help me through my treatments. I appreciate all the love and support I have received already. With the holiday season here, cherish the times with your loved ones, as I know I will.

It is very sad news and we wish him all the best. Hopefully he can recover from that horrible disease and get back to coaching one day.

The career of Tony Granato

Granato played in the NHL for 14 seasons from 1988 to 2001. He played in 774 seasons amassing 248 goals and 244 assists for 492 points. Additionally, he had 1425 penalty minutes in those 774 games. He also played in 79 playoff games producing 43 points.
In his career, Grantao played for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. He retired in 2000-01.
After his playing career was over Granato began coaching in 2002-03 where he alternated between being a head coach and an assistant coach between 2002 and 2009 (six seasons). He then went on to be the assistant coach in Pittsburgh (2009-2014) and Detroit (2014-2016).
In the 2016-17 season Granato was announced as the University of Wisconsin's head coach, and he remained there for seven seasons between 2016 to 2023 when he was relived of his duties in the off-season.
