A former member of the Ottawa Senators is accusing the team of using him during his time there, and he's making it clear he's not happy about it at all.

Veteran Player Rips Former Team

Michael Del Zotto signed a two-year deal with the Sens back in 2021. Two months into the season, he found himself in the AHL, where he put up a record 10 goals and 27 points in 26 games. Del Zotto managed to get back to the NHL before the end of the season, but was bought out of the final year of his contract and moved on. In a new interview, he said a conversation with the team about why he was sent down initially left a bad taste in his mouth.
"During my time in Ottawa I got sent down to the minors because they wanted to wake the team up. I was told at the end of the season, 'oh, you were the scapegoat. Your teammates liked you and we had to send you down to shake things up.' In what world is that normal? It makes zero sense"

Veteran Defenceman Rips the Ottawa Senators for the Way he was Treated

The Senators would be the last team Del Zotto played for in the NHL. He signed a deal with the Florida Panthers after leaving Ottawa, but only managed to play in the minors. He was eventually traded to Detroit, but was again restricted to playing in the AHL. Del Zotto won a cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019.
