The player who broke a referee's arm has officially received his punishment, and it is harsh, putting the blame on him for the hit.

Player Breaks Referee's Arm In Crazy Play Where He Lays Massive Hit on the Ref

In Sweden's 5th Tier Hockey League, an insane play went viral that saw a player lay a huge body check on an unsuspecting referee. The referee was severely injured on the play and had to be taken to the hospital. It was later determined that he had broken his arm.
Rare situation that resulted in nothing but an injured referee. What do we think about it?
The player initially claimed that the play was an accident and that he mistook the referee for his opponent and followed through on his hit. There was initially no penalty on the play.
"It's the final of the series and everyone is excited out there, especially me, who likes to play physically. The referee gets in the way, as he did the whole game. I had to stop their player and then the referee got in the way. Then he had to take the hit even though it was not the intention, of course."

Punishment Laid on Player and He Will Be Indefinitely Suspended For His Actions

Despite his claims that the hit was an accident, the player has received a significant punishment for his hit on the referee. He will be suspended indefinitely until the league holds a hearing on the incident.
You can't do that.

Vita Hästen player Casper Gillberg checks the referee into the boards. Ref broke his arm on the play.

Suspended until hearing.

Gillberg suspended 9 games earlier in the season for an illegal check to the head.

Gillberg listed on EP as 6'5 227 lbs.
Hopefully, the referee will have a speedy recovery and the player will learn from his mistake, accidental or not.
