The Toronto Maple Leafs have the forward core to contend for a Stanley Cup, but until they can fix their issues on the blue line, that will remain a major pipe dream.

A blockbuster deal?

According to Elliotte Friedman, the team aren't sitting back and waiting for the issues to fix themselves, as they are reportedly eyeing two massive defensemen from a Canadian rival.
I think they are looking for D you know the one I can see is Zadorov, & I'll bet you this if they can find a way to get Zadorov & Tanev, I bet you they would do it.

I bet you they would do both of them If Calgary was willing to do that I really believe it Now, I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but if you show me a path where that could occur, I could see it.
With the Flames eyeing a potential re-tool and the Maple Leafs looking to go all in, this move could make sense for both teams, with Toronto giving up a prospect or two and a first-round pick in any potential deal.

A major upgrade

While neither Tanev nor Zadorov are considered stars in the NHL, they both play the way Toronto need their blue line to play, as they bring intelligence, physicality and toughness to a defense that's now missing several pieces.
Ultimately, a deal isn't likely to come in the next few weeks as Calgary figure out how their season will unfold, but if they do look to unload some pieces ahead of the trade deadline, Brad Treliving should be the first person to call his former team.
