After injury has plagued him in recent years, it appears that the Washington Capitals star is once again not going to put together a full NHL season in 2023-24.

A fantastic run

Over the past three seasons, Backstrom, a key piece of the Capitals organization for the past 15 years, has managed to put together just 141 of a possible 246 games, and now, bad news has struck again.

Capitals GM Brian MacLellan says it's unlikely Nicklas Backstrom will play again this season.

After just 8 games, Backstrom has likely been ruled out for the rest of the season, and for a Capitals team hoping for one last miracle run with this veteran core, this is another tough break.

Backstrom has been a key part of this team for the longest time, tallying 271 goals and 1,033 points in his 1,105 career games played, and now, you have to wonder if this may be the last we've seen of the 35-year old at the top level.
