The Montreal Canadiens have made some savvy moves over the past few months, and now, their Head Coach is reportedly pushing for yet another big acquisition.

A rising star

According to Eklund of Hockey Buzz, Martin St. Louis is pushing hard for the Canadiens to acquire Conor Garland from fellow Canadian team the Vancouver Canucks.
"I know [the Canadiens] are currently talking to Vancouver about Connor Garland, and would love to make that deal if the Canucks were to take 50% of the salary. Currently I hear that Vancouver is stuck around 30 to 35% of the salary. This feels almost too close of a difference to imagine a deal couldn't get done. Marty St. Louis apparently is pushing hard for this one" - Eklund

Garland, along with several Canucks has been heavy in the rumour mill for months now, but with his $4.95 million cap hit, it makes any deal to move him that much harder.

Trade imminent?

Eklund's report states that the issue holding up this deal is how much of his salary the Canucks are willing to eat, as the Canadiens want it to be 50%, while Vancouver has thus far expressed an interest in retaining just 30-35%.
That doesn't seem too far off, and with Garland's potential and production at 27-years of age, he'd be a key piece for this Montreal team, and after 52 and 46 points in the last two years, acquiring him could be a great move to continue moving this rebuild in the right direction.
