The NHL was surrounded by controversy last season when several NHL players refused to wear LGBTQ+ pride warmup jerseys. Now one of the NHL's biggest stars has given his thoughts on the banning of the jerseys.

McDavid Speaks About Pride Nights

In a new interview, Connor McDavid spoke about pride nights in the NHL. He expressed his disappointment in the NHL over their decision to take away specialty jerseys.
I know in Edmonton, we were one of the first teams to use the Pride Tape,» McDavid said. In our dressing room, we strongly feel that hockey is for everybody. That includes the Pride Nights.

This is a strong statement in support of Pride Nights and other causes that the NHL supported. The NHL made a rushed decision to ban all specialty jerseys in the NHL and now their players are speaking their minds.

While the NHL has banned the jerseys the causes will still be recognized in the arena. Many teams are still going to carry out nights supporting causes such as Pride and Hockey Fights Cancer. McDavid spoke on the league's handling of the situation from last season.
I don't think it had to have been a distraction, It could have been a non-issue while focusing on the good that was coming out of those nights.

Even with the NHL banning specialty jerseys, it sounds as though Edmonton Oilers players will continue to show their support. Pride tape is likely the next best option that players who wish to use it.
