The Western Hockey League announced today that head coach of the new Wenatchee Wild Kevin Constantine has been suspended indefinitely. The decision came after an independent investigation discovered that he violated the WHL Standard of Conduct policies. The former coach made 'derogatory comments of a discriminatory nature.'

If Constantine wishes to return to the WHL he would be required to apply for a formal reinstatement with the league commissioner. He is not eligible to apply until July 2025 at the earliest meaning he will miss two seasons at a minimum. Commissioner Ron Robison explained the decision:

«The WHL holds our players and staff to a very high standard of conduct at all times. We have extensive programming which emphasizes the importance of always treating players and staff in a respectful manner and there is a zero tolerance for any comments of a derogatory nature. Those in leadership capacities in the WHL, in particular our Head Coaches, are expected to set examples for our players and not conduct themselves in a manner that would impact adversely on the team environment or inflict damage on the reputation of the League.»

Constantine was initially suspended on September 24th after the WHL received a complaint about the coach. The WHL's independent Player Advisory Council subsequently began their investigation.

Constantine has been a coach for over a dozen organizations including the following NHL clubs: San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
