With the Coyotes future in Arizona looking unclear at best, Owner Alex Meruelo has come up with a new backup plan.

Reno, Nevada, Next Home Of The Coyotes?

Meruelo just a new billion-dollar entertainment district in Reno Nevada which is eerily similar to the one in Tempe.
As this bombshell was reported, Meruelo and the Coyotes felt the need to address it with the following statement.
"here is no intention to move the Coyotes to Reno at this point. Obviously, they're an NHL team. They need a much bigger venue. There are a lot of rumors about that. But at this point in time, we're not planning on hockey. But we could do preseason tournaments. We would love to have the Coyotes possibly play the Knights up here in preseason. I think there would be a huge demand for that. It would sell out in a day. But as far as having a team play here, we don't have any plans currently."

The Reno venue is intended primarily for the University of Nevada basketball program but there is always the possibility of converting it into a multi-purpose arena capable of hosting Basketball or Hockey.
The Coyotes remain steadfast in their stance that they are not moving, but the clock is ticking on their agreement with the ASU Sundevils. If they can't get a building in time, this Reno complex could be another temporary solution, if not a permanent one.
