The Arizona Coyotes' future in Arizona is currently unknown but their owner is already working on a backup plan to keep them in the desert.

Coyotes Owner Proposes Billion Dollar District In Reno Nevada

It has just been revealed that the Arizona Coyotes owner, Alex Meruelo, has proposed a billion-dollar entertainment district in Reno Nevada which is eerily similar to the Tempe entertainment district proposal.
It is worth noting that Meruelo and his team said the following regarding the Coyotes and this district as a potential relocation site.
«There is no intention to move the Coyotes to Reno at this point,»

«Obviously, they're an NHL team. They need a much bigger venue. There are a lot of rumors about that. But at this point in time, we're not planning on hockey. But we could do preseason tournaments. We would love to have the Coyotes possibly play the Knights up here in preseason. I think there would be a huge demand for that. It would sell out in a day. But as far as having a team play here, we don't have any plans currently.»

The venue is planned as a district for the University of Nevada and its basketball team but for a billion-dollar district, it seems like an ice rink could be built down the road.
While they are adamant that it is not a Coyotes relocation spot, it could be a place that buys them time if their agreement with the University of Arizona runs out in 2026 and they do not have another spot ready in time.
