In recent news, the NHL was forced to cancel an upcoming game due to unforeseen circumstances.

NHL Forced to Cancel Game Between New York Rangers and New York Islanders

In breaking news, the NHL was forced to cancel tonight's game at UBS Arena in New York due to the state of emergency declared in the City, as a result of significant flooding in and around Brooklyn.
The New York Rangers game tonight against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena has been postponed due to flooding and the state of emergency declared by New York state. The game will be rescheduled tomorrow, Saturday, September 30, at 7:00 PM at UBS Arena.
Major flooding in Brooklyn today. Trains shut down and the only way out of the station is through this.
The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.

Not the First Game in NHL History That Had To be Canceled

Of course, the NHL tries to give every team as much opportunity as possible to schedule preseason games in order to prepare for the season. However, this isn't the first time that the League has had to change their plans as a result of Mother Nature.
Last year, the NHL was forced to cancel a few bad weather games, as well as the Nashville Predators' game where they experienced a broken pipe in the arena.
