Steven Stamkos has been a long-time star of the Tampa Bay Lightning, but now, it appears the franchise icon could ultimately end up leaving this team in the near future.

A Lightning legend

Stamkos was drafted by the Lightning with the No. 1 overall pick way back in 2008, and over that time, he's put together 1,056 points in 1,003 games with the team, all while leading them to two Stanley Cup Championships.

Many people can't imagine the star forward in any uniform but Tampa Bay, but now with a final salary cap crunch coming next summer, it appears he may be on the way out, with a surprising division rival looming.

Stamkos a free agent

In a recent report published by the Boston Globe, Kevin Paul Dupont has suggested that if the long-time captain were to leave the Lightning, the Bruins would be aggressive in pursuit of him, and it's a destination that makes sense.

After the retirement's of David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, the team need major help down the middle, and with the talented forward group this team possesses, the addition of Stamkos would no doubt make sure they hold their mantle as a Stanley Cup favourite.
