With the Leafs adding depth on the wing this offseason, it makes for a tough situation for this prospect.

Robertson's Situation with the Leafs

Nick Robertson has been mired with injuries during his development over the past few seasons. As he began getting into some games with the Leafs, he unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury.

With training camp coming up, what are the odds that Robertson can make the roster? Leafs writer Luke Fox had this to say.

"Well, the cap-pressed Leafs are once again carrying a tight roster (likely fewer than 23 bodies), and the soon-to-be-22-year-old Robertson is once again exempt from waivers, plus he hasn't played a game since suffering his season-ending shoulder injury on Dec. 8.

A peek at Toronto's left-wing depth chart shows that Robertson will have to outduel Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, Matthew Knies and, say, Sam Lafferty to secure a spot. Among that group, only Knies is exempt from waivers, and his post-season revealed a cap-friendly NHLer."

Short end of the Stick

With Robertson being exempt from waivers, it makes him the likely victim of being sent down to the Marlies. Additionally, it seems unlikely that he will beat out Bertuzzi or Domi, two players who were brought in under the current regime. That leaves Knies, a player who excelled during the playoffs last year, and Lafferty. Lafferty, though, would be a risk to be lost to waivers if her were sent down.

That unfortunately means Robertson is likely to be the one sent down. If he is able to stay healthy, however, a good showing at camp could change that.
