After going fourth overall to the Seattle Kraken last season, Shane Wright has become one of the most contentious prospects in the league.

Entering his D+2 season, an NHL spot is still not a guarantee. With the CHL/NHL agreement making him ineligible for the AHL, this could be a major problem.

Wright to Get Exemption

Luckily for Shane Wright and the Kraken, it appears that the CHL will be lenient and allow him into the AHL. There is no reason for the D+2 Wright to take a roster spot away from younger players, and he could really bloom in Coachella Valley.
"If he does not make the Kraken, I'm under the impression that the CHL is in agreement that it doesn't make any sense for him to go back there and Wright will go to the [AHL]." Friedman said.

This certainly isn't what the Kraken were hoping Wright would be two seasons after his draft, but here we are.
It will be interesting to see how Wright performs this year - it is truly becoming ‘make or break'.
