Leading into the final game of the 2015-16 season the Boston Bruins needed to win to make the playoffs. It would be a rivalry matchup with the Ottawa Senators.
Shortly before the game, it was found out that Tuukka Rask would be out due to a stomach bug. The Bruins would go on to lose 6-1 and be eliminated from the playoff picture.
After this game rumors began to swirl that Rask did not have a stomach bug but was in fact just hung over. Fans turned on Tuukka thinking he had thrown away their shot at another Stanley Cup for a fun night out. Now we are getting a new perspective on the events that finally set the record straight.
In a recent appearance on the Spittin Chiclets Podcast with Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney. During their time together Rask had the opportunity to speak on the incident.
Rask clarifies that he had gone out 5 days before not the night before the game. He also says that it truly was just a bad-timing stomach bug.
While this will not undo all the years of rumors or the loss it may take some of the heat off of Rask from Bruins fans going forward. In the end, Rask still is a Stanley Cup champion with the Bruins and one of the greatest goaltenders of all time in Boston.
