New Roles For Capitals Brass

According to an announcement by the Capitals, the team has promoted GM Brian MacLellan to President of Hockey Operations, while retaining his role as General Manager of the team, a position he has held since the 2014-15 season.

Under MacLellan's tenure, the Capitals have had a 409-213-77 record, 3rd most in wins in that time. The Capitals also won the 2018 Stanley Cup, and the 2016 and 2017 President's Trophy, for best regular season record.

Assistant GM Chris Patrick, a longtime member of the Capitals Front Office, has been promoted to Associate GM. This sets us Patrick as second in command of managerial decisions, and could potentially signal a future GM role if MacLellan is to transition to Hockey Operations full time in the future.

The club statement says that Patrick will continue to carry out his regular duties such as analytics, player negotiations & Hockey Operations.

Capitals Part-Owner Dick Patrick has been elevated to the status of 'Chairman'. The former Team President comes from the legendary Patrick Hockey family, has held the role of President for Washington since 1982. Patrick will continue his ownership role of the team.
