After two straight trips to the conference finals, the New York Islanders have faded away into a confusing mix of veteran players and long-term contracts.

While they're locked in to players like Pierre Engvall and Scott Mayfield until the 2030s, one deal they aren't forced to keep is that of head coach Lane Lambert.

Lambert came in to replace Barry Trotz, to underwhelming results.

It's been 121 days since the Islanders were ousted in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were an incredible team, so the Islanders can't objectively be blamed for losing, but the interesting thing is that Lambert hasn't met with the media at all since the loss.

This has led many to believe that the coach is on his last legs on Long Island.

Site Eyes on Isles puts it as such:

Lambert, deserving or not, will be the one the team moves on from if a move is deemed necessary, as he needs to get his team off to a hot start.

It is more necessary than ever for the Islanders to start performing, with nine players under contract for at least the next four years. Unless things change quickly, Lambert won't be the man to bring them playoff success.

As Read on Eyes on Isles - Is Lane Lambert on the NY Islanders' early-season hot seat?
