Today, the Minnesota Wild announced the signing of 2020 first round pick, Marco Rossi, to a three-year contract worth $2.775 million dollars, and comes with an average annual value of $925,000.

According to Wild insider Michael Russo, now that Rossi has signed, the expectation is that Minnesota will loan him to the ZSC Lions of Switzerland's top division, National League. Rossi will return from his loan prior to the opening of 2020-21 NHL training camps.

Rossi, 19, was drafted earlier this month, in the first round, 10th overall by the Minnesota Wild. As Michael Russo mentioned, Rossi became the first European player to ever lead the OHL in scoring, and the first European player to lead the CHL in scoring since Alexander Radulov did in 2005-06.

Rossi had an incredible year in 2019-20. The Austrian forward had 120 points (39 G, 81 A), 40 penalty minutes, and was a +69 in 56 games with the Ottawa 67s in the Ontario Hockey League. For his efforts, he was named 2019-20 OHL MVP, as well as being named to the OHL first All-Star team.

In 109 regular season OHL games, he's put up 185 points (68 G, 117 A), 72 penalty minutes, and is a +120. In 17 playoff games, Rossi has 22 points (6 G, 16 A), 18 penalty minutes, and is a +1.

Internationally, Rossi has represented Austria on a few occasions, most recently at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships Division 1A. In 5 games, Rossi had 5 points (3 G, 2 A), 8 penalty minutes and was a +3. In last year's World Juniors Division 1A, Austria won promotion to the top division, so there is a possibility that we'll see Rossi lead Austria at the 2021 World Juniors in Edmonton.
