Some terrible news truck the hockey community in the last few minutes.

QMJHL Star has Cancer

The Cape Breton Eagles announced earlier today that their player Jacob Newcombe has been disgnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Here's what the team declared:

«We are deeply saddened by the news of Jacob's diagnosis, but we are equally inspired by his courage and determination. Jacob is not just a player to us; he's part of the Cape Breton Eagles family. We are committed to supporting him in every possible way as he embarks on this journey.»

«His strength and determination on the ice are inspiring, and we have no doubt that he will approach this battle with the same level of resolve. The Cape Breton Eagles organization, along with our fans and the entire hockey community, will rally behind Jacob and support him every step of the way.»

Newcombe's Journey

Newcombe absolutely looks forward to getting back on the ice, but he know he has to focys on his health for the moment.

«I would like to thank the Cape Breton Eagles organization, my teammates, and the entire staff for their support throughout this difficult time,» says Jacob. «My main concern right now is my health. I am looking forward to getting back in the rink with my teammates and playing in front of Eagles fans in the future.»

Last season, he scored 27 points in 36 games with Cape Breton.
