Evgeny Svechnikov, a native of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, has been in North America since 2014 when he joined the QMJHL ahead of his draft year in 2015. Since then Svechnikov has carved out a solid NHL career as a depth forward playing 172 career games in the league over six seasons.

Svechnikov Heads To Russia

It was recently announced that Evgeny Svechnikov has signed in Russia with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. He signed a two-year deal worth 42.5 million rubles ($585,157 USD). Svechnikov is currently only 26 years old so with a good stint in Russia he could find himself back in the NHL in no time.

What Could've Been In Carolina

According to reports Svechnikov was looking to specifically play with one NHL organization. That Carolina Hurricanes were Evgeny's desired destination. He wanted to be able to play with his brother Andrei. When an offer did not come from Carolina he shifted his focus overseas.
