The Jack Adams winning coach has spoken out on his upcoming contract negotiations.

Brind'Amour's Low Salary

Currently, Rod Brind'Amour is making $1.8 million per year as the Carolina Hurricanes' head coach. While this is life-changing money to most people, he is being quite underpaid relative to other head coaches.

For example, Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens, who had no prior head coaching experience, got a $3 million per year contract. Newly hired Mike Babcock got $4 million per year in Columbus.

Brind'Amour is entering the final year of his contract and will look to be properly paid by the franchise.

Brind'Amour Speaks On His Next Contract

In a recent interview with NCSN, Brind'Amour spoke about what he plans to do for his next contract.

«I know it's not going to be an easy negotiation" - Rod Brind'Amour

While Brind'Amour acknowledged it will not be an easy negotiation, he also spoke about how he wants to stay with the franchise.

«I don't want to sell myself short, because that's kinda what you're doing (when you speak openly about your strong preference to stay), but everyone knows — I've made no bones about it — this is my team, this is my home. How many guys get to coach where they live and coach the team that they played on? What's that worth to you? That's a lot."

Nonetheless, Brind'Amour deserves to be paid among the best coaches in the NHL as he has coached the Hurricanes to five straight playoff appearances and will look to help them win their second-ever Stanley Cup.
