While there could be arguments for one or two other players, Wayne Gretzky is regarded by the majority as the greatest player in NHL history, leading his teams to four Stanley Cups while adding 15 All-Star appearances and 9 Hart Trophy's among other accomplishments.

An unmatched career

Over the stretch of 1487 games, Gretzky played for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers, tallying an incredible 894 goals and 1963 assists for an NHL record 2857 points.

He accomplished just about everything anyone in sports could hope too, living up to the hype of the nickname 'The Great One', but now, he's revealed one thing he regrets not doing from his career.

Gretzky... A Sabre?

Recently, a surprising comment has come about through Matthew Fairburn's piece for the Athletic, with Gretzky saying

I can still remember thinking, gosh I wish one day I could wear that Buffalo Sabre Jersey

Growing up in Brantford, Ontario, Gretzky was just a stone's throw from Buffalo across the border in the United States, and while the team didn't have much success throughout Gretzky's tenure, it's hard to argue that their early jersey's are some of the best in the NHL.

Still, Gretzky went on to have an unprecedented career, with accomplishments that anyone would dream of, so it's safe to say that he's still likely happy with the work he did on the ice.
