It's no secret that Patrick Kane is getting up there in age, and many would say that he isn't the player he used to be. While this may be true, Kane is clearly sick of this notion and came out with a massive statement today addressing these comments.
Kane Speaks Out
Kane released a statement recently where he dropped some crucial information regarding his future in the NHL. The 34-year-old winger is coming off of an interesting season split between Chicago and New York.
"I know I'm 35 (next) season, but it's not like I feel old. I still feel pretty young. I feel like the passion is still there. I still know I can be a top player if my focus is solely on hockey instead of how I feel." - Patrick Kane
Clearly, Kane doesn't appreciate the notion that he can't keep up anymore, and would like to put that talk to rest. He believes that when he's 100%, he can still be among the best in the NHL, and we don't doubt him.
All Talk?
While Kane certainly sounds confident in his words, we can't help but wonder if the forward may be in over his head a little bit. Kane has had a rough couple of years, which haven't been aided by a hip injury and surgery.
While we don't doubt that he's still in the top half of NHL players, his age is bound to catch up to him at some point, if it hasn't already. The question of whether or not Kane can still play an elite NHL game is still very much up in the air and will be up to him to prove.
