The Vancouver Canucks will be looking to purchase a BCHL team which may give them a significant advantage in the NHL draft.

Canucks Look to Purchase Chiefs

Today, it was announced that the Vancouver Canucks are looking the purchase the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL.
The BCHL is the 2nd tier division of Junior hockey is western Canada and has produced countless NHL talents.
The Canucks could get a significant advantage by purchasing this team and developing players as young as 16 years old into NHL prospects and then drafting them when they turn 18 years old.

Could They Get In Trouble For This?

There is no blatant rule that says NHL teams cannot own junior teams. However, it is sort of an unwritten rule. The Canucks will likely get away with this due to the lack of NHL talent that comes out of the Chiefs system but if there is an uptick in Chiefs drafted by the Canucks, Gary Bettman may intervene.
Last season, the Chiefs finished 5th in the coastal conference and lost in the league semi finals.
