It's been some time since we reported that Tony DeAngelo would be headed back to the Carolina Hurricanes via trade. It appears as though the NHL blocked that trade from happening, and both teams will have to wait until the beginning of free agency to complete the deal.

DeAngelo Loses Family Member

To make things worse for DeAngelo in this difficult time of uncertainty, his grandfather has passed away. Lou, who DeAngelo referred to as "Seeds" was a major role model in DeAngelo's life when he was younger, playing a huge part in his hockey journey.

RIP seeds. I'm glad I got to be next to you on your final day. So many memories we had together, will never forget any of them. Sorry you had to go through your final years in such a bad way. I'll miss you but I know your back with jojo now like you wanted to be. Say hello for us. Love you seeds. See you again - Tony DeAngelo

While there is never a right time to lose a loved one, the circumstances in which DeAngelo is currently going through with the NHL make this loss sting even more.

What's Going On With the TDA Trade?

If you remember back to a few weeks ago, we reported that the Philadelphia Flyers would be trading defenseman Tony DeAngelo back to Carolina in exchange for a prospect. While all seemed good at first, the league stepped in a blocked the trade from being completed.
The prevailing theory is that the league suspected tampering between Carolina and Philly, and wanted to go through the right precautions before allowing the trade to go through.
Last year at the NHL draft, DeAngelo was traded from Carolina to Philly, where he then signed a 2-year contract with the Flyers. A little under a year later, the Flyers are now trying to trade DeAngelo back to Carolina, while retaining half of his salary. You can see why the league might view this as tampering.
In all reality, the Flyers have a whole new management since that trade was made, and Danny Briere has his own vision for his team. The trade will likely end up happening one way or another.
