Beloved KHL Star Passes Away at Young Age

Some sad news from the international hockey scene today. Dmitri Tarasov, a Star player who spent his entire career in the KHL and its precursor the Russian Super League, has died at just 44 years of age.

17 Years

Tarasov spent 17 seasons playing in the KHL and RSL. Most of those years were spent with Khabarovsk Amur, where he was team captain for five. He also had shorter stints with Ufa Salavat Yulayev, Novosibirsk Sibir, and Moscow Dynamo.

Cause of Death

Russian authorities have not said how Tarasov died, only that it was "suddenly."

Translation: Yesterday in Khabarovsk, Dmitry Tarasov, a Khabarovsk Amur pupil, the club's leader in the national championships in the number of games played and Russian champion with Salavat Yulaev, died suddenly. He was 44 years old.

Tarasov retired from pro hockey following the 2015-16 season.
