Russia was banned from IIHF competition in February 2022 due to the invasion of Ukraine and it looks like this ban won't be lifted anytime soon.

Russian Ban From IIHF Competition Likely Longer Than Expected

Russia has been a major talking piece in hockey discussions of late. Despite their undeniable talent as a hockey country, the political issues that come along with them overshadow all.

It was recently announced when Russia May be reinstated into the IIHF being able to play in tournaments such as the World Championship and the World Junior Championships.

This is unfortunate specifically for scouts looking to draft talent out of Russia. The IIHF World Junior Championships is the one must watch for any scout and taking Russia of the playing card makes it more difficult to watch their top talent.

In addition to this, the players also are unable to represent their country which they must hate because they are a very patriotic group. Most people dislike politics becoming involved in sports but it sometimes is unavoidable and the issues are too pressing.
