With all of the rumors circulating in the days since Kyle Dubas' firing, we've heard relatively nothing from the Leafs' superstars. With some major contracts expiring soon, and a new General Manager stepping in soon, some core players' futures are unknown.

Shanahan Eases Tensions With Core Four

After the fallout of Dubas' firing, many people were concerned that stars like Auston Matthews and William Nylander would want out of Toronto. According to Chris Johnston, Shanahan personally called all four members to let them know he wants them all back.

Despite this, Johnston added that a new GM could feel differently about the situation, and look to move someone.

As Shanahan begins his search for a new general manager, it's almost certain that a candidate's view on those four players will be brought up in the interview. Perhaps it's time for Shanahan and MLSE to take a new approach.
