As soon as the New York Rangers were eliminated from the post season in the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, people started speculating on whether Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks would reunite in the offseason. GM Kyle Davidson has now definitively answered that question.

Appearing on 670 The Score in Chicago today, Davidson was asked point blank whether Kane would get an offer from the Blackhawks this summer. Those hoping it would happen will be disappointed.

"We did make our decision that we're going to move on from Jonathan (Toews) and Patrick."

Leaving the Windy City

Kane, 34, was traded to the Rangers at the 2022-23 deadline after spending his entire career in Chicago and winning three Stanley Cups there. The writing had been on the wall in the weeks leading up to the deadline, and Kane said then if he had to leave he was hoping to be traded to a contender. The Rangers fit the bill at the time (the playoffs are a harsh mistress). Kane is a free agent as soon as the market opens, and will likely get several offers. They won't be for the $10.5 million a year that he was getting, but he should have plenty left in the tank at this point and can add scoring depth and valuable experience to any team.
