The Arizone Coyotes are currently sharing their home arena with the Arizona State University's Mens Hockey team. Many fans already know this, but not all are aware that on May 16th, the citizens of the City of Tempe, Arizona will have the ability to determine the Coyotes' future. The citizens will vote on whether or not the city should install a new multi-billion dollar entertainment district, which would become the new home of the Coyotes, and right now the odds aren't looking good for the Yotes.

Coyotes Making Last Ditch Effort to Save Future

The Arizona Coyotes have long been the "baby" of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and he's stubbornly refused to consider their relocation despite numerous controversies and setbacks. After having settled for the Coyotes to play in a college sized arena in order to save their current home in Arizona, Bettman and Coyotes' front-office members proposed a new entertainment district to the City of Tempe, which would house the Coyotes for decades.

The city council of Tempe unanimously decided that the citizens of Tempe should decide via a vote, and should that vote fail, the Coyotes will be homeless as of 2026. In that event, the NHL will likely have no other option but to move the franchise elsewhere. With the vote less than a month away, it appears the NHL has entered full on panic-mode.

I'll give you a little insight into how worried the Arizona Coyotes are about this arena vote that's coming up that will determine their future: They have sent members of their front office door-to-door canvassing the last couple weeks,» - Frank Seravalli

This news is concerning to say the least for the Coyotes, who may finally have to face relocation after years of hanging on by a thread. Some locations that fans have supported in recent years include Houston, Texas and Quebec City, Quebec.

The idea of a new NHL franchise in Texas, or the return of the Nordiques is certainly exciting, but we'll have to wait until after the vote to see if that will be a possibility.
