In the aftermath of the Dallas Stars' first game against the Minnesota Wild, was the realization that Joe Pavelski could be out for a considerable amount of time. The veteran forward had to leave the game following a huge hit from grizzled defenseman Matt Dumba, which sparked a massive brawl. We now know more about Pavelski's injury status.

Pavelski Placed in Concussion Protocol

Dallas Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer met with the media today, and obviously the status of Pavelski was on everyone's mind. The veteran coach was happy to provide an update regarding Pavelski's health at this point in time.
The bad news is that Pavelski will have to go through the NHL's concussion protocol. The good news is that DeBoer has coached Pavelski previously when the forward suffered a similar head injury, and DeBoer said that this case is much less concerning.
This news is a huge sigh of relief for Stars fans, who were concerned about the health and safety of one of their core players. Unfortunately, we have no estimate as to when Pavelski might return.
