The Maple Leafs came out uninspired and found themselves down 3-0 after the first, before ultimately falling 7-3 in a game 1 route against their division rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The job that this team of officials did was met with much scrutiny, mainly stemming from the conflict of interest that lies between the Leafs' bench boss and referee Wes McCauley.
Former junior hockey coach, David Frost was accused of sexually assaulting underage hockey players, including Mike Danton. It took a crazy turn after Frost had been acquitted of the charges against him when Danton was arrested for conspiring to murder David Frost.
You may be wondering about the connection, and how this may have impacted the game. Danton and Sheldon Keefe were teammates when much of the alleged abuse was taking place. The coach at the time was David Frost. Sheldon Keefe was the one to testify against Frost during Danton's trial.
Simply put, McCauley should be nowhere near any Leaf's playoff action. It just doesn't make any sense. The league is not short on officials, so simply have him stationed somewhere else.
Keefe was not the only one upset. John Tavares was clearly frustrated post-game:
Broadcaster Chris Chelios also did not shy away from stating his opinion regarding last night's officiating.
