Ron Hextall's time as Penguins GM has now come to an end, but he will still be mocked for some of his terrible moves for a long time.

Hextall's Granlund Trade the 'Laughing Stock' of the League

After getting gifted $5.95-million in cap space from the waiver claim of Kasperi Kapanen, and the dumping of Brock McGinn, Ron Hextall used it immediately on middle-six Predators centre Mikail Granlund.

Granlund carries a $5-million cap-hit for the next two years, and is only regressing with age.

Not only did Hextall acquire this deteriorating asset, he paid a second-round pick for it!

Per The Athletic, this trade is now the laughing stock of the league.

Former #Penguins GM Ron Hextall didn't exactly impress the other general managers around the NHL when he made the move to acquire Mikael Granlund C
Accoring to Pittsburgh insider Josh Yohe (via the Athletic), multiple GM's scoffed at Hextall's acquisition of Granlund for a second rounder, wondering what exactly his plan was.

Sources also indicate that this wasn't even Hextall's decision, but a recommendation made by former AGM Chris Pryor that Hextall followed blindly.

Tough, tough look for the Penguins' former management team.

While Hextall's time in Pittsburgh may be over, the effects of his moves are bound to make the job of the next GM a tricky one.
