At 32 years old and previously considered to be well past his prime, Erik Karlsson has had a resurgent season this year with the San Jose Sharks. Tonight he finalized a case for one of the best performances by a defenceman of this generation.

With his second goal of the game tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, Karlsson notched his 100th point of the season.

It's only the sixth time in NHL history a defenceman has reached the 100 point milestone, and it's the first since Brian Leetch did so in 1992.

With this impressive offensive season, including 25 goals scored, Karlsson has once again entered Norris trophy discussion. He won the award for NHL's best defenceman in 2012 and 2015, and likely will win once again this year, unless voter prioritizing defensive analytics hold him back.

Earlier this season, Karlsson was rumoured to have been in trade discussions due to his impressive play on the lowly Sharks, but no deal ever came to fruition. Unfortunately for the broader audience of hockey fans, this historic and resurgent year from one of league's best ever defenceman was spent on a completely irrelevant team.
