During the current season, when the Vancouver Canucks were once again struggling, they decided to take the plunge and initiate a rebuild. New management made some significant trades, the most significant being their captain, Bo Horvat.

Horvat had been performing well with the Canucks this season, scoring 31 goals before being traded to the Islanders. The Islanders were looking for goal-scoring talent and immediately signed Horvat to an 8-year, $64 million contract. Now, for the first time in his career, Horvat is part of a team making a real push for the playoffs, and during a post-game interview, he was asked to compare the experience to Vancouver.

When asked about the fan support in New York, Horvat replied:

It's a lot better than Vancouver, I'll tell you that much for free.

It's a bold statement, one rarely heard from hockey players, especially from a former captain speaking about his former fan base. Perhaps with the end of the season approaching and the emotional intensity of pushing for the playoffs, Horvat's guard was down when he answered the question.

As the season draws to a close, we l might see more candid comments from players reflecting on the past year.
