The Vancouver Canucks have been a middling franchise for sometime now. The team is set to miss the playoffs for the 7th time out of the last 8 seasons. The Franchise is in the exact spot you don't want to be. Not good enough to make the playoffs and not bad enough to have a real great chance at the top selection. Unless you have been living under a rock this year's 1st overall pick is going to be a good one, franchise changing forward Connor Bedard.

One player who is used to having his name in the rumor mill is Canucks forward J.T. Miller. General Manager Patrick Allvin was taking calls on the 29 year old leading up to the deadline.
Vancouver was looking for two first-round picks (or equivalent value) in any deal for Miller and according to insider Frank Seravalli Pittsburgh and Vancouver got pretty far down the road in conversations.
The rumored deal had the Canucks getting 2 1sts and trying to figure out where to flip Jason Zucker for additional assets.
The 30 year old Miller has scored 29 goals and 76 points in 75 games played this season. He is signed through the end of the 2029–30 season at an $8 million cap hit.
It appears Pittsburgh general manager Ron Hextall is desperate to keep the window open for an aging Penguins roster. Desperate enough to attempt to mortgage the future. Pittsburgh is currently in a fight for their season, holding a one point lead on the Florida Panthers for the final Wild Card position in the East.
Whichever team is lucky enough to get in, will likely face the league leading Boston Bruins in the first round.
