Star forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has reportedly requested a trade from the Washington Capitals, according to a recent report from the Capitals blog RMNB.

The request is not new, as there have been multiple points of friction between Kuznetsov and the organization over the last two seasons. The Capitals had even explored trading him during last season, causing Kuznetsov to feel that the relationship was broken between them.

Kuznetsov's role on the team has decreased in recent years, particularly with the addition of Dylan Strome and his lower offensive production. This season, he has only scored 12 goals and has a defensive rating of -18 in 72 games, although he has earned a respectable 52 points. Kuznetsov still has three years left on his contract, which pays him $7.8 million annually and includes a 15-team no-trade clause.

With the Capitals seemingly in rebuilding mode, the team is likely to accommodate Kuznetsov's request and expedite their rebuilding process. However, due to his significant contract, finding a trade partner could be challenging, and Kuznetsov may end up on a rebuilding or fringe playoff team instead of a contender.
