While Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals chases Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals scored record, the Great 8 has reached another major achievement, one that sets him apart from all other players. Ovechkin now has 13 40-goal seasons in his career, surpassing Gretzky for the all-time lead. As for how he feels about it, Ovechkin let everyone know while getting in a funny dig at a reporter.

Following the game against Columbus in which Ovi scored his 40th goal, he was asked about the new record by Tom Gulitti of NHL.com

"Yeah, it's a pretty cool moment. It doesn't matter what kind of record it is. It's a record, you know," said Ovechkin.

He then asked Gulitti how many records he personally holds. The reporter's response was zero. "Zero records."

"Yeah, so you see," was Ovechkin's snarky reply.

Ovechkin has always had a great relationship with the reporters who regularly cover Washington games. He's even brought them food like pizza a couple of times. As for the new record, add it to the list of all the records Ovechkin holds or will hold by the time he retires. None will be bigger than the all-time goal scoring record should he manage to get there. The most 40 goal seasons in NHL history is certainly a major one, though, and a record that's likely to stand for a while.
