The infamous wheelchair incident involving the son of former NHL star and current Philadelphia Flyers interim GM Danny Briere has resulted in punishments for three members of the Mercyhurst Lakers, including Carson Briere. The incident, if you haven't seen it yet, involved Briere pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of steps at a party over the weekend. The chair, which was broken due to the impact, belonged to someone attending the festivities.

Carson and Danny released a joint statement admitting that the younger Briere was involved in the incident. The two others seen with Briere in the video have not been identified, but Mercyhurst now says all three have been suspended pending the results of an investigation.

"After conducting an initial investigation into the incidents depicted on social media, the Mercyhurst Athletics Department has determined that three individuals in the video are student athletes. We have placed all three on interim suspension from their athletics teams per school policy, pending the outcome of the investigative process."

As spelled out in the statement, this is a suspension from their athletic teams, not from the school itself.

What possessed Briere and his friends to pull off this stunt is a mystery. He has pledged to do better.

"I am deeply sorry for my behaviour on Saturday," Briere said. "There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment."

Briere, 23, has been playing hockey for Mercyhurst for the past three seasons.
