The Jakob Chychrun sweepstakes are still surprisingly ongoing, despite him being a healthy scratch for trade-related reasons since February 11th. A trade has yet to formalize and it's unclear if one will occur before Friday's trade deadline.

Several teams have expressed interest in acquiring Chychrun including the Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators. The Boston Bruins were interested, but opted to go out and acquire Dmitry Orlov. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, you can add another team to that list, the Washington Capitals.

"It's clear the Capitals are hoping to reset on the fly. Jake Chychrun is a player of interest for Washington. Including the 1st acquired from Boston, the Caps have the pick currency to make it work. The Chychrun saga has been ongoing since Nov, 2021." Dreger said.

Chychrun is under contract for two more seasons beyond the 2022-23 campaign, with a cap hit of $4.6 million. The Coyotes will keep Chychrun scratched until the March 3rd trade deadline and general manager Bill Armstrong will try to move him before then because as of July 1st, the Boca Raton (Florida) native's modified no-trade clause comes into effect. Once that comes into effect, Chychrun will have much more of a say on where he goes than he does now.

The 24-year-old has skated in 36 games for the Coyotes this season, tallying 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists), 22 penalty minutes and is a plus-eight while averaging 23:16 TOI per game.
