Just days after being released from his club in Switzerland over the weekend, former Vancouver Canucks first-round pick Jake Virtanen has signed with the Fischtown Pinguins in the German DEL for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

"I'm more than happy that the Pinguins are giving me the chance to show that I'm a decent person and a good hockey player here in the north. I will do everything to ensure that the trust placed in me is rewarded." Virtanen said.

The 26-year-old had his contract terminated on February 11th by EHC Visp after it was reported that he got into an altercation with a teammate on the bench during a game in late January.

Virtanen was signed by the Edmonton Oilers to a PTO in September, but failed to earn a contract and was released before the start of the season. He then went on to sign with EHC Visp, who play in Switzerland's second division.

In 21 games, the 2014 sixth-overall pick had 25 points (15 goals, ten assists), 44 penalty minutes and had an even-rating.
