Gary Bettman vocalized his support in famed actor Ryan Reynolds' bid to purchase the Ottawa Senators. Bettman was so impressed by Reynolds in their delegations, that the NHL's Commissioner basically confirmed that the Hollywood mega-star would be an owner.

However, he walked those comments back shortly thereafter. After all, he has to generate buzz and can't be seen as meddling, even though we all know what's going down.

"[Reynolds] very much impressed us," Bettman said at the NHL's board of governors meetings on Tuesday. "If we can figure out a way to have him included, I think that would be great for the Senators and great for the league."

The Deadpool star admitted that he would need to embed himself with some considerably deep pockets if he were to be involved. A 'Sugar Mommy or Sugar Daddy' were his words, if I'm not mistaken.

According to Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Sun, Reynolds has elected to partner with The Remington Group, an Ontario-based real estate conglomerate. Per Garrioch's report, The Remington Group's portfolio and presence in the Ontario is what stood out to Reynolds, who is Canadian by birth and has spent ample time in the province.

It's safe to assume that this catapults Reynolds and The Remington Group at the top of the list of potential suitors, of which there are many. The latest estimates have the Senators' sale price expected to reach $800 million or more.

A sale is expected before the start of the 2023-24 season and possibly sooner. One airtight criteria for any sale is that the Senators must remain in Ottawa, per Gary Bettman.
