New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba likes to play on the edge and at times, he has gone a bit too far. On Monday night against the Calgary Flames, Trouba threw two MASSIVE hits, the first coming on Dillon Dube in the opening period, then in the second period, he levelled Nazem Kadri.

After both hits, Trouba was forced to drop the gloves with Chris Tanev and Dillon Dube. Following the game, Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant discussed the night and wasn't too happy that his captain has to answer the bell after every hit he throws.

"It's a shame you have to do that every time you throw a hit," Gallant said. "For me, the first one was a good, clean hockey hit. It wasn't a dangerous hit. You wouldn't think there would be retaliation to that, but there was, and that's fine."

Gallant added, "But the second one, he hit Kadri pretty hard," Gallant added. It looked like Kadri might have got hurt. I understand guys standing up for their teammates, but I think sometimes, it gets a little (bit of an) overreaction. Trouba's a big hitter; people know that."

Even Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter had no issues with either hit thrown by Trouba.

"They were all clean, good hits," Sutter said.

Calgary and New York combined for 62 penalty minutes in the game, Trouba finished the game with ten, while Dube led the way with 17.

The two teams will meet for the second and final time this season on Hockey Night in Canada on February 18th at 10 p.m. ET at the Saddledome. It will be interesting to see if there will be any carry over from Monday's contest.
