The Greater Toronto Hockey League has contacted both the police and Hockey Canada after the discovery of a group chat used by its players. According to the GTHL, the group chat was used by members of the U18 Toronto Titans and was littered with homophobic slurs and death threats.

"We reported it to the independent third party established by Hockey Canada and they have assumed jurisdiction," said Scott Oakman, executive director of the GTHL. "We are currently seeking an update from them on the status of the investigation. We have not received a final report from them."

York Regional Police told TSN's Rick Westhead they had received a complaint and have looked into it. No charges have been laid. The group chat was discovered last October, although the investigation was not made public until now.

The Greater Toronto Hockey League is the largest minor league in the world. It is comprised of around 2800 teams and 40,000 members. There's no word on who may have been the target of the slurs and threats.
