Trevor Zegras took some heat over the weekend for his antics against the Arizona Coyotes. The Ducks' star muttered something to Coyotes defenseman Troy Stecher, which set the latter off in a fit of uncontrollable rage.

Lip-reading 'experts' on the Internet came to the conclusion that Zegras taunted Stecher over his late-father, suggesting that 'dad is watching' while pointing to the sky.

That is obviously a heavy accusation that would undoubtedly have consequence. Whether it was directed from the NHL or via players' justice, Zegras would have a target on his back for saying something like that.

However, Arizona Coyotes correspondent Craig Morgan reports that Zegras did not, in fact, say that about Stecher's late father.

"I can confirm via the Coyotes that Anaheim forward Trevor Zegras did not say anything about Troy Stecher's father during their dust-up last night but, per a team source, he crossed the line with 'some very inappropriate comments.'
Stecher has declined comment on the topic," Morgan writes.

Not everyone has accepted the position that Zegras should be absolved of any wrongdoing. Bruins forward Brad Marchand let his feelings on the matter known in hilarious fashion.

Whatever Zegras said to Stecher was clearly across the line, as the Coyotes confirmed that much without getting into detail. An apology is likely in order, but whether or not Stecher would accept it is another story.

The two sides meet again on April 8th, so that is a game to circle on your calendar for no other reason than this particular conflict. It will not make for very exciting hockey otherwise.
