In the 2021-22 season, Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone missed 45 games to a back injury, which required surgery. His return this season has been a massive bump for the Golden Knights, who currently sit 7th in the NHL standings.

With 38 points in 43 games, Stone's role in Vegas cannot be overstated. Which brings us to today's point: according to Frank Seravalli of the The Daily Faceoff, there is a real concern that Stone is dealing with another back issue.

Stone hasn't played since the team's game against the Florida Panthers on January 12, in which he played just 3:57 before exiting the game.

Stone's was a non-contact injury, which are often worse than those suffered from contact. The details around his current ailment are shrouded - as they often are - but there is undoubtedly cause for concern.

The silver lining is that, if Stone is out long-term, Vegas would receive the LTIR cap-relief, but that hardly supplements the loss of their captain and arguably most important skater.

This situation will need monitored closely as we approach the trade deadline on March 3rd.
