TSN's Darren Dreger reports that William Nylander's next contract could be a hefty one. In 41 games for Toronto this seasons, Nylander has scored 45 points (22g-23a) while posting sterling analytics in the process.

According to Dreger, Nylander could be entering "Mitch Marner territory" on his next contract.

Mitch Marner makes a hair under $11 million per season, totaling his contract at $65.4 million over six years. Nylander makes a shade under $7 million, so if Dreger is correct, he is in for quite a raise.

Comparatively, Marner has had a far more productive career than Nylander, but the pair's respective output has been relatively similar this season; Marner has just four more points - so far. In Marner's 468-game career, he has posted 504 points (153g-351a), a 1.08 points-per-game pace.

Nylander, on the other hand, has posted 388 (159g, 229a) points in 480 NHL games; a .81 points-per-game pace. Night & day, really.

According to CapFriendly, Nylander's contract expires after the '23-24 season (the same as Auston Matthews' deal), so Toronto has until then to figure out what to do with the gifted forward. Nylander's name has practically lived in a constant state of speculation since arriving to the NHL, and while he's in Toronto it probably always will. But will the Leafs move the Swede before his contract expires, or will they elect to see the deal through?
