A former 1st-round pick of the San Jose Sharks wants a trade, and the team is reportedly willing to facilitate it. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, defenceman Ryan Merkley has asked for an exchange.

Merkley, who was taken 21st overall in 2018, definitely has talent. He was considered by some analysts to be the best defenceman of the 2018 draft outside of Rasmus Dahlin, who was taken 1st overall by Buffalo. However, it seems Merkley's attitude was a factor in him dropping in the draft. While playing with the Guelph Storm of the OHL, he reportedly lashed out at teammates and was once sent back to the locker room by the team's coach mid-game after an argument on the bench.

"I know what I've done wrong. I know my bad habits, I know my areas I have to work on for sure if I want to get to the next level now," Merkley told reporters after being drafted by San Jose. "I have to fully invest in getting better, showing everybody what I can do, completing my all-around game."

In 39 games with the Sharks, Merkley has 1 goal and 5 assists.
