The Ontario Hockey League's trade deadline is fast approaching and with only one week left to make deals, a big one was made between Midwest Division rivals, the Guelph Storm and Kitchener Rangers.

Guelph has traded Winnipeg Jets 2022 third-round pick Danny Zhilkin, along with an eighth round pick in 2025 to the Kitchener Rangers. In exchange, the Storm got two second-round picks (2023, 2025), three third-round picks (2024, 2025, 2026), one fourth round pick (2023), as well as 19-year-old forward Jesse Fishman.

This is a massive trade and for those who aren't aware, the Ontario Hockey League does not permit teams to move first-round picks, so the highest you are able to move is a second.

With Guelph on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture in the Western Conference, moving Zhilkin for assets that will help the team next year and the year after was the most ideal move, especially since the 19-year-old will more than likely be with AHL Manitoba for the 2023-24 season.

As for Kitchener, they sit seventh in the OHL's Western Conference and will look to climb the standings before the playoffs begin in late March. They have plenty of talent on their roster including Montreal Canadiens first-rounder Filip Mesar, Ottawa Senators prospect Tomas Hamara, Los Angeles Kings second-rounder Francesco Pinelli, Dallas Stars prospect Francesco Arcuri, among others.
