This one play (combined with yet another dominant season) could have the Lady Byng Trophy locked up for Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar. He could have kept his mouth shut and taken the powerplay in a scoreless hockey game, but he did the honorable thing and made sure the referee made the right call.

Makar was skating the puck behind his own net when Mat Barzal - in pursuit - took a would-be tripping penalty. The reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner actually blew a tire, which caused him to fall to the ice, so he went to the official and made sure he knew that. Pure class.

Talk about a sure-fire way to land on Santa Clause's Nice List. This is, indeed, a rare event, and Makar deserves recognition for it in an otherwise cutthroat league.
